Intro
- Hello, I would like to welcome you to the very first Vlog for Cogdill Concepts
- I’m Michael Cogdill and thank you for joining me
Overview
- In this quick and simple tutorial, we will cover an easy way to make your very own DIY sketchbook with your favorite paper.
Materials List
- Things you will need
- Paper – I used arches cold press 140 lb paper, 22×30 inches resulting in 14 pages about 7 1/2 x 5 1/2
- cardboard backing – paper pad backing or something similar approximately 16×12, making front and back covers 8×6 inches each
- vinyl sticker paper, stickers, or something similar to wrap sketchbook covers
- string – fishing line, yarn, dental floss, preferably strong and durable
- push-pin, nail, something to punch holes in paper and through cardboard
- heavy-duty scissors or utility knife and cutting mat
- ruler
- pencil
Segment 1
- I prefer to fold and tear the paper as opposed to cutting with scissors to keep the deckled edge look, especially with the paper I have chosen
- Fold in half, back and forth until the paper is easily torn
- Continue folding and tearing until you have torn all the pages into appropriate sizes
- you may cut your paper if preferred, depending on your paper choice
Segment 2
- Measure 8×6 inch covers for your sketchbook and make cut marks on the paper pad backing or cardboard
- Cut out the front and back sketchbook covers
- Wrap the covers in the vinyl sticker paper
- Now that the paper and covers are completed, it is time to poke the holes through them
Segment 3
- Measure approximately 1-1 1/2 centimeters from one of the papers edge and draw a line for a margin
- Make four holes evenly spaced along the margin line
- Push the push-pin through the marked spots
- use this piece as the template for making the rest of the holes in the paper
- Now make the holes in the covers using the paper template
- You may need to use the push-pin first, followed by a nail to make the holes slightly larger
Segment 4
- thread the string through the front cover, through all of the paper, and then through the back cover.
- tie the string together leaving a small amount of slack enabling the book to open and close easily
- Decorate your DIY sketchbook
- Sketch and paint away!
